Background: Caregivers of cancer patients face many challenges and stressors and are always exposed to significant risks related to the burden of care, which can have negative effects on various aspects of their lives. According to the literature, cognitive behavioral therapy and emotion-focused therapy are both effective on quality of life, but there is a research gap in the application of these treatments and their comparison in the study population. Objective: The present study aimed to compare the effectiveness of cognitive behavioral therapy and emotion-focused therapy on quality of life in caregivers of cancer patients. Method: The research method was a semi-experimental pre-test-post-test with a control group and a two-month follow-up. The statistical population included all caregivers of cancer patients who benefited from the services of the Iranian Cancer Control Charity Foundation (MACSA) in Mashhad for their patients in the last three months of 1402. From the aforementioned statistical population, 45 people who met the conditions for entering the study were included in the study using purposive sampling. Then, they were randomly assigned to 3 groups of 15 people (30 people in 2 experimental groups and 15 people in the control group). The quality of life index (SF-36) was used to collect data and as a pre-test, post-test and follow-up. The protocols included cognitive behavioral therapy (Yung et al., 2008) in 10 90-minute sessions once a week and emotion-focused therapy (Greenberg, 20010) in 8 90-minute sessions once a week; while the control group did not receive any intervention. The data were analyzed using the repeated-measures analysis of variance statistical test and the Bonferroni post-hoc test and SPSS version 27 software. Findings: The results showed that both cognitive behavioral therapy and emotion-focused therapy are effective on some components of the quality of life of caregivers of cancer patients (p<0.05). Based on the results of pairwise comparisons, the mean scores of physical functioning, social functioning, and pain in the cognitive behavioral therapy group were significantly higher than those in the control group (p<0.05). The difference between the mean scores of other variables between the groups was not significant (p<0.05). Conclusion: According to the research findings, both treatments have a significant effect on the quality of life in caregivers of cancer patients, and therefore, these interventions can be used to help the aforementioned community.
