Measuring the capacity of solar electricity and the potential to reduce air pollutants: a case study in Kohgiluyeh and Boyer Ahmad province (Lendeh) Background and purpose: Solar energy and especially photovoltaic technology is known as one of the most important clean alternative energy production technologies in the world. The minimal environmental effects in this type of energy and reduction of the price of this technology, increase the acceptability of these systems and make the hopes for solving the challenge of air pollution and climate changes. Considering the importance of this approach, the potential of using rooftop solar energy system in Kohgiluyeh and Boyer Ahmad province, Lendeh city in electricity production and reducing air pollution has been the main goal of this study. Research method: Google map software was used to determine the roof level of selected buildings in Lendeh city. According to the aerial map of Lendeh city, the places to solar electricity production have been identified and after determining the use of the places, the historical radiation and weather information of the PV system software has been used to measure the potential. In order to evaluate the amount of air pollution reduction in proportion to the produced solar electricity, air pollution caused by thermal power plants has been considered as the main method of electricity production in the country (Iran). Findings: The average power generation capacity for each residential building was 22.75 kilowatts, and if 3600 residential buildings are included, 81.9 megawatts of solar power plants can be built on the roofs of residential houses in Lendeh city. This value is 2.2 and 0.4 MW for office and sports buildings, respectively. In total, the power plant construction capacity in all three uses for the whole city was equal to 84.5 megawatts, which is a good capacity to supply electricity for the entire city. If this amount of solar electricity is produced in the city of Lendeh, it can be expected to prevent the release of nearly 33,000 tons of carbon dioxide and more than 150 tons of other pollutants into the atmosphere every year. Conclusion: The results showed that the city of Lendeh has a good potential for the development of rooftop solar energy and the reduction of the air pollution load affected by the development of clean energy due to the location of radiation, climate, geographical coordinates and usable surface.
