Analyzing the Effects of Green Skin Extract of Walnut Fruit on the Serum level of Sugar, Lipid Profile, and Aspartate Transaminase of Streptozotocin Diabetes Male Adult Rats

Background & aim:Anti-diabetic effects of Walnut green skin has been taken into consideration in the recent years. This study aims to analyze the effects of green skin extract of walnut fruit on the serum level of sugar, lipid profile, and ALP, ALT, AST enzymes of diabetic male adult rats. Methods:In this experimental study, 32 male adult rats are divided into four groups each of which containing 8 rats. These groups are control, treated with medicine solvent, diabetic with 60 mg/kg dose of Streptozotocin, and diabetic under 10 day treatment of 100 mg/kg dose of green skin extract of walnut fruit groups. At the end, the serum level of glucose, triglyceride, high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), Alkaline Phosphatase (ALP), Alanine aminotransferase (ALT), and Aspartate aminotransferase (AST) enzymes are measured. The collected data are processed with ANOVA statistic tests, Tokey analysis, and statistical significance of data differences in the level of P < 0.05. Results:The results of this study indicated that in diabetic animals, in comparison with control group, the amount of ALP, ALT, AST enzymes, glucose, triglyceride, and LDL will increase, but the amount of HDL will decrease (P < 0.01). However, in male adult rats which are treated by green skin extract, in comparison with diabetic animals, the serum level of ALP, ALT, AST enzymes, glucose, triglyceride, and LDL will decrease, but HDL will increase (P < 0.01). Conclusion:The green skin extract of walnut fruit have anti-diabetic effects which causes a decrease in the amount of glucose, aspartate transaminase, and an increase in the amount of lipid profile in diabetic animals.
