Background & aim:  Clinical belongingness and professional values may influence nurses' attitudes toward their profession, thereby affecting the quality of nursing care and patient outcomes. Therefore, the present study aimed to determine and investigate the relationship between clinical belongingness and professional values among nurses.

Methods: The present descriptive-analytical cross-sectional study was conducted on 126 nurses working in adult intensive care units (ICUs) of hospitals in Yasuj, Iran, in 2023. Participants were selected through a census sampling method. Data were collected using self-report questionnaires on clinical belongingness and professional values. Statistical analyses included one-way ANOVA, independent t-test, Pearson correlation, regression analysis, and the Kolmogorov–Smirnov test.

Results: The results indicated that the mean ± standard deviation scores for clinical belongingness and professional values were 109.68±13.75 and 106.22±11.07, respectively, reflecting a good level of clinical belongingness and a desirable level of professional values among nurses. A statistically significant relationship was observed between workplace setting and clinical belongingness (p = 0.02). Additionally, a significant positive correlation was found between clinical belongingness and professional values (p = 0.003, r = 0.38).

Conclusion: The findings of the present study demonstrated that clinical belongingness and professional values are interrelated among ICU nurses. It is recommended that nursing administrators and policymakers utilize these findings to develop strategies aimed at enhancing nurses' sense of clinical belongingness and reinforcing their professional.
