The anxiety caused by the corona virus has led to the fact that the mental health of people with underlying diseases such as diabetes is at risk, and their physical health is also affected by it. Considering the spread of the corona epidemic, the purpose of this study is to compare the anxiety and depression of patients with diabetes with normal people during the spread of the corona epidemic.
Materials and Methods: This research was descriptive-analytical and comparative causal. The participants included 300 people (150 patients with diabetes, 150 normal people) who were selected by purposeful sampling. The data were collected using a 9-question patient health questionnaire and a 7-question general anxiety questionnaire and were analyzed using spss software, version 25.
Results: The average age of the participants in this study was 27.48, 191 were women and 109 were men. The results of data analysis showed that patients with diabetes experience higher anxiety (t298=3.15, p<0.05) and depression (t298=2.23, p<0.05) than normal people during the outbreak of coronavirus.
Conclusion: According to the results obtained from the current research and the higher level of anxiety and depression, it seems that during the outbreak of the Corona epidemic, patients with diabetes are more vulnerable to psychological problems, for this reason, it is suggested that people with diabetes refer to Specialized diabetes clinics and cities should also be evaluated in terms of mental health.
