Background & aim:Hamstring injuries are among the most common and clinically important injuries across various sports. Therefore, this study aimed to determine and compare the frequency characteristics of ground reaction force components during a cutting maneuver between athletes with concomitant hamstring injury and chronic nonspecific low back pain and healthy athletes. Methods: The present cross-sectional comparative study included 36 male athletes aged 16–35 years. Participants were allocated into two groups of 18 athletes each: athletes with concomitant hamstring injury and chronic nonspecific low back pain and healthy athletes. Kinetic data during the cutting maneuver were recorded using a Bertec force plate at a sampling frequency of 1000 Hz. Ground reaction force data were recorded in three components: vertical (Fz), anterior–posterior (Fy), and medial–lateral (Fx). Following extraction of the stance phase, the data were processed using a fourth-order Butterworth low-pass filter with a cutoff frequency of 22 Hz. The data were subsequently analyzed using appropriate statistical tests to compare the two groups, with the significance level set at 0.05. Results: The spectral characteristics of the ground reaction force differed significantly between injured and healthy athletes. In the vertical component, the median frequency and frequency bandwidth were significantly lower in the injured group. In the anterior–posterior direction, the number of essential harmonics was significantly lower in the injured group (p < 0.05). In the free-moment component, both the number of essential harmonics and median frequency were significantly lower in injured athletes than in healthy athletes. Conclusion: The findings indicated that athletes with hamstring injury and chronic nonspecific low back pain, despite experiencing similar ground reaction forces to healthy individuals, employed movement patterns characterized by lower frequency content and reduced complexity. These findings underscore the importance of addressing movement control quality during rehabilitation.
