Investigating the prevalence of anxiety and depression in cardiac patients referred to hospitals in Shiraz

Abstract:
Background and purpose: Cardiovascular diseases are psychosomatic diseases, and mental disorders can directly or indirectly play an important role in the initiation, exacerbation, or prognosis of these patients. Therefore, it is very important to investigate the prevalence of depression and anxiety in cardiac patients, and this research was conducted with the aim of investigating the prevalence of depression and anxiety in cardiac patients.
Materials and methods: In this cross-sectional study, the statistical population included cardiac patients referred to hospitals in Shiraz, who participated in the research using available sampling method. Beck's anxiety and depression questionnaires were used to collect data and the data were analyzed using SPSS-24 software.
Results: The frequency of depression and anxiety in the studied population was 61% and 78.4%, respectively, the age group of 50-60 years, under-diploma education, people with 4-6 children and users of neuropsychiatric drugs showed a higher level of depression and anxiety, and anxiety was significantly higher among drug users. . And factors such as age, gender, and smoking jointly predicted the occurrence of depression and anxiety in the population under study. There is a significant, positive and direct relationship between depression and anxiety (p<0.01, r=0.54, n=784).
Conclusion: The majority of heart patients under the study showed mild to severe depression and anxiety. These two disorders in heart patients have a positive and significant relationship that requires special attention.
