Background:Dengue fever represents a significant global health threat with expanding geographical distribution, including regions previously considered non-endemic. Healthcare workers' knowledge and attitudes are crucial for early detection and effective management of emerging infectious diseases. This study aimed to assess knowledge levels, attitudes, and associated factors regarding dengue fever among healthcare workers in southeastern Iran. Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted among 205 healthcare workers at a tertiary care hospital in Zabol, southeastern Iran, from January to March 2024. Participants completed a validated questionnaire assessing demographic characteristics,knowledge(24 items across multiple domains), and attitudes (13 Likert-scale items). Statistical analyses included descriptive statistics, chi-square tests, and multivariate logistic regression. Results:The mean knowledge score was 15.2 ± 3.1(maximum 24), with 62.4% of participants demonstrating good knowledge levels. The mean attitude score was 47.5 ± 6.8(maximum 65), with 54.1% showing positive attitudes. Multivariate analysis revealed that age ≥35 years(AOR = 2.34, 95% CI: 1.42-3.85),female gender (AOR = 1.89, 95% CI: 1.15-3.11),and previous dengue fever training(AOR = 3.12, 95% CI: 1.87-5.21)were significantly associated with better knowledge scores. Conclusion:While overall knowledge and attitudes toward dengue fever were satisfactory among healthcare workers in southeastern Iran, significant gaps exist in specific clinical areas.Targeted educational interventions focusing on high-risk groups and incorporating practical training components are recommended to enhance dengue preparedness in emerging risk regions. The strong association between prior education and both levels of attitude and knowledge further demonstrates the potential impact of well-designed educational interventions.
