Objective: Asthma is the most common chronic disease in children. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between asthma risk factors and severity in children with asthma.
Methods:   This cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 200 children with asthma sampled randomly during 1399-1400. A checklist was used to collect demographic information, birth information, BMI. , Asthma severity was divided into three categories: low, moderate, severe. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 20 software.
Results: The mean age of participants was 1.2 ± 8.8 years. Among them, 53.5% had mild asthma, 34.5% had moderate asthma, and 12% had severe asthma. There was a significant relationship between asthma severity and body mass index, age at birth, and mode of delivery in both boys and girls with asthma (p < 0.001). The most common clinical symptoms reported were cough (48.06%) and shortness of breath (95.9%). Furthermore, 16.28% of children experienced these symptoms while walking or at night, and 83.13% experienced them daily. All children reported using an inhaled beta-agonist, and 32% reported using it less than twice a week. Additionally, 5.53% of children had an FEV1 value greater than 80%.
Conclusion:  Asthma severity in children is associated with high body mass index, cesarean section delivery, and premature birth. Therefore, these factors should be considered in clinical examinations of children. Moreover, methods for reducing obesity should be considered for asthmatic children who are overweight.
