The effect of two weeks high intensity interval training on the levels of myocardial SDF-1α, its receptor (cxcr4) and c-kit proteins in male rats.

Background and Aim: Exercise training increases the tissue level of the stem cells and their recruitment factors for regeneration and proliferation of the myocardial cells. However, the effectiveness of a short-term of high intensity exercise training has not been determined. Accordingly, the aim of this study was to determine the effect of two weeks of high intensity exercise training on SDF-1α, its receptor (CXCR4) and C-Kit proteins in the myocardial of male rats.
Methods: The present experimental study was performed on 10 male Wistar rats (weight 23.75 ± 8.7 g) that were divided into two groups of control and training. The training group performed two weeks of high intensity training in four parts. The first part included three days of training per week and two times each day( 4 ×2 min with high-intensity periods and 3×2 min with slow-intensity interval). Second Part also consisted of Two days of exercise as same as the first part, but the high and slow interval intensity increased gradually .The third part was performed in three days with one more repetition and with the similar intensity of the second part. The fourth part was also performed with one more repetition than the third part and with the same intensity as the second part. 48 hours after the last training session, the rats were anesthetized and heart extracted and was frozen quickly. SDF-1α, cxcr4,and C-Kit proteins concentration were measured by western blot method. Data were analyzed by independent t-test.
 Results: The results of independent T-test showed that protein concentration of SDF-1α in the tissue were significantly increased in training group compared to the control group (p<0.038). Also, the concentration of CXCR4 protein and the C-kit protein content in the heart tissue were significantly increased in training group compared to the control group (P<0.002 , p<0.028),(P<0.05).
Conclusion: it seems that even a short period of high- intensity interval training can stimulate the synthesis of new cardiomyocytes and repair of damaged cardiomyocytes through stem cells recruitment.
