The Effect of a Course of Exercise Training in Water on Glycated Hemoglobin and C-Reactive Protein in Type2 Diabetic Women.

Abstract:
Background and Aim: Diabetes has been known as the most common metabolic- endocrine disorder, which causes unpleasant effects of the eye, kidney, nervous and heart. Thus the purpose of this study was to examine the effect of water exercise training on Glycated hemoglobin and C-reactive protein in type 2 diabetic women.
Methods: This is a semi-experimental study so 30 women with type 2 diabetes were selected purposefully and randomly assigned to either control (n = 15) or experimental (n = 15) groups. The exercise protocol was performed for 8 weeks, each week for 3 sessions and 60-70 minutes for each session in the indoor swimming pool. No intervention was conducted on the control group during this study. Independent t-test and paired t-test were used to evaluate changes in variables.For statistical analysis using SPSS-21 software at a significant level of P <0.05.
 
Results: The results showed that body mass index (P<0.015), waist to hip ratio (P<0.022), body fat percent (P<0.04) in experimental group after exercise training in water significantly decreased. The results of independent t test showed that HOMA-IR (P=0.013), CRP (P=0.001), HbA1C (P=0.001), significantly decreased in experimental group compared with control group.
Conclusion: it seems that 8 weeks of water exercise training can prevent type 2 diabetic women by decreasing changes in anthropometric indices, CRP levels, Glycated Hemoglobin and Insulin Resistance (HOMA-IR).
