Protective effect of hydroalcoholic extract of nasturtium officinalis against carbon tetrachloride-induced liver damage in rats

Background & Subjective: Nasturtium officinals in the leaves and flowers of this herb combination of flavonoids which are anti-cancer, decrease blood glucose, high blood lipids properties have in this study. In this study, we evaluated the protective effect of hydralcohoic extract of Nastartium officinals on liver damage induced by carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) in rats.
Material and methods: In this research 32 Wistar male rats in 4 group treated oral with different doses of Nastartium officinals and now tetrachloride carbon (50% rate 1:1 with olive Oill 1ML/kg) inter Intraperitoneal twice a week samples were transferred to the laboratory to measure activity levels of ALT, AST, ALP and Total protein levels.
Results: Carbon tetrachloride treatment increased serum levels of ALT, AST, ALP and total protein in rats (p <0.50). Treatment with hydroalcoholic extract of Nastartium officinals caused significant reduction of ALT, AST, ALP and total protein.
Conclusion: Nasturtium officinal's can protect the liver against oxidative damage caused by carbon tetrachloride and this protective effect of the liver is probably effective in eliminating the changes in toxicity and antioxidant enzymes and sweating of free radicals.
