A case report : Acute kidney injury and cardiac arrest after poisoning with the uncommon type of rodenticide (zinc phosphide) in yasouj

Introduction & Objective: Zinc phosphide is a solid gray chemical compound. Commercial samples of this chemical are found in dark or even black and white. Use this chemical as rodent poison. Severe hypertension and cardiac poisoning are one of the most serious complications of this poisoning and are associated with a high mortality rate. Considering that in recent years poisoning with aluminum phosphide, known as rice pill in Iran, is common and poisoning with zinc phosphide as a toxin of the rat, which has side effects such as poisoning with aluminum phosphide, is uncommon. This report relates to one Deaths, following poisoning with zinc phosphide in yasouj
Case Report: The patient is a 18-year-old man who for suicide attempt admitted to hospital. Because of not was of poison,the patient is treated and evaluated for possible poisoning with superwarfarin. After a few hours of admission, the level of consciousness decreased and the breathing came deep. In tests after the onset of dyspnea, pH 6.94 HCO3: 4.9, BUN 24 blood glucose: 24, Creatinine: 1.6, was reported. It is then determined that poison of mice are zinc phosphide. Despite the onset of treatment, after 1 hour, the patient came  cardiac arrest and ultimately died.
Conclusion: Poisoning with zinc phosphide can cause acute kidney injury, and given that zinc phosphide is one of the deadly toxins of rodents, especially rat poison In cases of poisoning with rodenticide, poisoning with zinc phosphide should be considered
