Validation of the Health-Based Social Vitality Model in Public Sport: A Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) Study

Background and Objective: In recent years, the issue of social vitality has received increasing attention as one of the important indicators of mental health and quality of life. Public sport has been recognized as one of the effective tools in strengthening social vitality and promoting the physical and mental health of different segments of society. However, various models have been proposed to measure health-based social vitality in public sport that require scientific and accurate validation. Therefore, the present study aimed to validate the health-based social vitality model in public sport: a confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) study.
Methods: For this purpose, 384 citizens from the 5 geographical regions of Iran, North, South, East, West and Center, who have participated in public sports in open spaces on a self-report basis, were selected as a sample using cluster sampling. The data collection method was the Social Vitality in Public Sports Questionnaire by Abbasi et al. (1404). To analyze the data in this study, Cronbach's alpha coefficient was used to examine the reliability and content and construct validity were used to ensure the validity of the Social Vitality in Public Sports Scale. Content validity was examined by asking several sports management experts for their opinions, and the construct validity of the scale was examined in two ways: calculating the correlation coefficient of the questionnaire with its subscales and confirmatory factor analysis. Data analysis was performed using SPSS26 and AMOS24 software.
Findings: The results of data analysis using confirmatory factor analysis showed that the social vitality scale in public sports consists of five socials, moral, motivational, cultural, and individual factors. The results of validation based on Cronbach's alpha also indicate that the scale has acceptable reliability.
Conclusion: The results of this study show that this scale is a reliable and valid tool for assessing social vitality in public sports.
