Abstract:
Domestic violence is a significant risk factor for psychological disorders in women, notably depression and suicidal ideation. This quasi-experimental study aimed to compare the effectiveness of Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT) and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) in reducing depression and suicidal ideation among women affected by domestic violence. A total of 51 participants were selected through purposive sampling and randomly assigned to two intervention groups and one control group (n=17 per group). The intervention groups received either CFT or MBCT, while the control group received no intervention. Data were collected using the Beck Depression Inventory (1961) and the Beck Scale for Suicide Ideation (1979). Multivariate analysis of covariance revealed that both interventions significantly reduced depression and suicidal ideation (p<0.05), with MBCT demonstrating a greater effect than CFT (p<0.01). These findings suggest that MBCT may be more effective in addressing these psychological outcomes in women experiencing domestic violence.
