Background and Objective: Gestational diabetes mellitus is becoming a public health concern in low/middle income countries, causing severe complications and mortality of mothers and newborns. This study aimed to determine the prevalence and identify risk factors associated with gestational diabetes mellitus in pregnant women in Yasuj. Methods: A total of 389 pregnant women were randomly selected from among pregnant women covered by health centers in Yasuj city. Information on demographic characteristics, medical history, and delivery outcomes was collected. The prevalence of gestational diabetes was determined, and odds ratios were calculated to assess the association between gestational diabetes and various risk factors including hypertension, macrosomia, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), and family history of diabetes. Results: Among the pregnant women studied, the prevalence of gestational diabetes was 1.5% and the confidence interval for the prevalence was 0.57-3.3%. Analysis of BMI status showed that 39.5% of the participants were mildly obese, while 22.4% were moderately to severely obese. Several risk factors including eclampsia, polyhydramnios, hypertension, macrosomia, PCOS, and family history of diabetes were examined. Odds ratios were calculated for each factor, although no statistical significance was observed for any of the associations. However, the odds ratio for PCOS (OR = 27.5, 95% confidence interval 48.16% to 57.07%) showed a relatively higher value compared to other factors. Conclusion: The prevalence of gestational diabetes in pregnant women in Yasuj was 1.5%. No statistically significant association was found between gestational diabetes and the risk factors studied, however, polycystic ovary syndrome showed a higher odds ratio for the occurrence of diabetes.
