Background and Objective: This study aimed to predict individuals’ emotional reactions to a positive HIV diagnosis based on personality traits and resilience, with emotional intelligence as a mediating factor, among people living with HIV attending the Behavioral Diseases Counseling Center in Yazd, Iran. Methods: This basic-applied research was conducted using a descriptive-correlational design within the framework of structural equation modeling (SEM). The statistical population included all individuals diagnosed with HIV who were referred to the Behavioral Diseases Counseling Center in Yazd. A total of 103 participants were selected via convenience sampling based on inclusion criteria. Participants completed the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale (2023), the NEO Five-Factor Inventory (1985), the Emotional Reactions Scale (Nock, 2008), and the Bar-On Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire (1990). Data were analyzed using Pearson correlation and structural equation modeling with SPSS v19 and SmartPLS software. Results: The path coefficients and t-values indicated significant positive effects of personality traits (β = 0.320, t = 3.556), resilience (β = 0.419, t = 2.919), and emotional intelligence (β = 0.576, t = 4.136) on individuals' emotional reactions. All hypotheses were supported at a significance level of p < 0.05. Conclusion: Emotional reactions to a positive HIV diagnosis are influenced by personality dimensions, resilience, and emotional intelligence. A better understanding of these relationships may inform more effective strategies for managing stress and anxiety among individuals living with HIV.
