Abstract
Introduction
one of the main causes of mortality is diabetes. Type II diabetes is caused by insulin resistance, insufficiency of insulin secretion, or an inappropriate increase in glucagon secretion. Diabetes can cause various complications, including neuropathies, retinopathy, nephropathy, and cardiovascular disease. Diabetes is a chronic disease and requires long treatment to reduce the complications of the disease as well as the resulting mortality. The present study compares the effects of yarrow and metformin on glucose and lipid profiles in diabetes induced by dexamethasone.

Materials and Methods
This is an experimental study. For induction of type 2 diabetes, daily dose of dexamethasone ( 5 mg / kg / day ) was administered subcutaneously for one month. 30 Wistar male rats were selected and randomly divided into 5 groups: healthy control (receiving Dexamethasone carrier containing normal saline + ethanol4%), diabetic control (receiving Dexamethasone 5 mg / kg / day), treatment group 1 250 mg / kg / day of Achillea extract), treatment group 2 (treated with 500mg / kg / day  of Achillea extract) and treatment group 3 (treated with 150mg / kg / day of  metformin ) . Duration of treatment with metformin and hydro alcoholic extract of the yarrow was started on the seventh day of the course and lasted for 23 days. In this study, blood samples were taken on the 10th and the last day of the study and blood glucose was measured and recorded using a glucometer. At the end of the study, the animals were anesthetized with ether and blood samples were collected from their hearts. The standard method was used to measure the serum lipids profile (TG, HDLc, LDLc) with an autoanalyzer, and measurement of malondialdehyde. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 23 software.
Findings
The results showed that the hydroalcoholic extract of yarrow in comparison to metformin, to a lesser extent, it can lower blood glucose levels and increase HDL, but have the same effect on LDLc. Also, this extract, unlike metformin, had no effect on TG.

Discussion and conclusion
The aerial parts of yarrow  had  beneficial effects on blood glucose and lipid profile, but its effects in turn are lower in comparison to metformin, and further studies are needed to determine its therapeutic dosage.
