The Effect of Gelatin Hydrogel Containing the Adipose Derived Mesenchymal Stem Cells on Wound Healing in Diabetic Rats

Abstract
Background and Aim: Cell therapy is one of the most challenging methods in the world for the treatment of diabetic wounds. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of gelatin hydrogel containing adipose derived mesenchymal stem cells on wound healing in diabetic rats
Materials and Methods: In this laboratory study, mesenchymal cells were isolated from human adipose tissue and identified experimentally. The gelatin hydrogel was made using the microbial transglutaminase enzyme. Diabetes was induced in Wistar male rats by injecting streptozotocin and 0.8 cm full-thickness wounds were created on the back of the rats. Animals were divided into 2 groups: control group (treated with normal saline) and group treated with adipose derived mesenchymal stem cells. 7, 14 and 21 days after treatment, wound photography and surface changes evaluation were performed. The data were analyzed using t-test and ANOVA.
Results: The results showed that wound area was smaller 7, 14 and 21 days after treatment in treated group compared to control group indicating that the wounds were healed more rapidly in treated group than control group.
Conclusion: Mesenchymal stem cells transferred by gelatin hydrogel to the wound site caused to faster healing of diabetic wound, according to which it is important to evaluate the use of this dressing in the repair of diabetic wounds in patients.
