The Effects of Anethum graveolens L. seed extract(AGSE)on the histostrcture and oxidative stress of kidney in hypercholesterolaemia female rats

Introduction: Anethum graveolens is used for improving  hypercholesterolaemia .In this research  Anethum graveolens L. seed extract(AGSE) was surveyed on the  histostrcture and oxidative stress of kidney in hypercholesterolaemia female rats
Methods:In this experimental study, 30 female Wistar rats were randomly divided in to five groups(n=6)  control normal  group were treated with normal diet, the other normal group were treated with 500mg/kg/bw AGSE, control sham  hyperlipidemia group received fatty food diet and hypertriglyceridemia, the fourth and fifth groups  hypercholesterolemia were induced  which received 300 and 500mg/kg/bw of AGSE via gavage route for 30 days. At the end of treatment, rats were weighed, anesthetized; blood samples were prepared from heart to analysis of plasma parameters. Left kidney was dissected, weighed and transferred to 10% formaldehyde solution. Kidneys 5μm section were prepared and stained by H&E method for histological study. Right kidneys were removed to -70°C for oxidative stress measurement. Data was statistically analyzed using paired samples One- Way Anova/Tukey – Test,the means were considered significantly different at p<0.05.
Results: In hypercholesterolaemia groups,  Cholesterol,TG body weight of rats,MDA, Blood urea nitrogen(BUN) and creatinine significantly increased in compared to control groups.In contrast  the mean rate of catalase and size of glomerular  kidneys' significantly decreased.  While in treatment groups with AGSE compared to hypercholesterolemia groups(these parameters were significantly improved (p<0.05).
Conclusion: AGES,specifically in the maximal doses, in addition to protecting histostructure of kidney had better effect on  reduce blood’s faty and kidney’s oxidative stress.
